Both the amount of coverage and the depth of coverage are, in my world, far beyond what's reasonable. He was an entertainer. He was odd. He died. End of story.
With the celebrities dropping like the proverbial flies, I found it interesting that Karl Malden's passing wasn't even mentioned by some media. He had a long career as an actor, he wasn't odd, so I guess he wasn't worth the coverage. (sigh)
